How To Enjoy Sun Safely This Summer

Like most women, you want to keep your skin looking vibrant and youthful for as long as possible. Well, guess what? There’s one very simple, easily avoidable skincare mistake that you’re probably making that’s contributing to fine lines, age spots, and lackluster skin. Can you guess what it is?

If you guessed improper sun protection, then you guessed correctly. While most of us know about the importance of protecting our skin from the sun, few of us act on it. We tend to value the immediate gratification of a summer tan over the long-term effects of sun damage.

To help you avoid unwanted sun damage, today we’re going to go over how you can enjoy the sun safely this summer, ensuring you get your fix of Vitamin D, while still protecting your skin from the sun.

Read on to discover how to achieve this balance.

1. SPF, SPF, SPF!

There’s no way around it: If you want ageless skin that is smooth and wrinkle-free, you need to start using SPF on a daily basis.

To make it easier, invest in a makeup product that contains SPF, or try out a tinted moisturizer with SPF in it. While we highly recommend using SPF on your entire body, if you’re short on time or can’t be bothered, please, at least ensure you’re protecting your face.

2. Check for UVA/UVB protection

While a strong SPF is important for protecting your skin, it is equally important to ensure that your sunscreen is broad-spectrum, meaning it has both UVA and UVB protection. UVA protection is what you need to protect against aging and wrinkles, while UVB is equally as important. UVB protects against burning that can lead to the development of skin cancer.

3. Hats are your best friends

And hey, on days where you forget SPF or you’re in a rush, make sure you have a hat on hand. Not only will a hat help protect you from the sun, but it’s also a stylish way to add some playful flair to your outfit.

4. Reapply

It’s easy enough to apply your sunscreen at the start of the day and to assume you’re good to go but rarely is this the case.

Whether you’re swimming, sweating, or just going about your day, sunscreen does not have limitless protection capabilities. Check the packaging to see how often you should apply, but in general, it never hurts to reapply, especially on particularly sunny days.

5.Try a sunless tanner

We can give you all the tips about avoiding the sun to help prevent wrinkles, but the truth of the matter is that some of you are going to want that summer tan.

In this case, we highly recommend making use of a sunless tanning product. This way, you can avoid the harmful rays of the sun, but you can still get that bronzed glow that you crave in the summer months. It’s the best of both worlds.

---

Bottom line: When it comes to enjoying your summer, we know getting as much Vitamin D as possible might be on your list of priorities, and while we never want to discourage time outdoors, we do want to encourage you to protect yourself.

As we said earlier, your summer tan might look great now, but down the line, there’s a good chance you’ll come to regret not protecting yourself from sun damage.

Will you be using sunscreen this summer?
